It's always scary; doing something that takes you out of your comfort zone. I don't care how outwardly confident you are... if you are put in an unfamiliar situation; conversation; location, you are going to feel uneasy.
And yet, that is what I crave the most. Sitting here in the midst of a chilly winter in the northern quadrant of the good 'ol United States...
I want to feel uncomfortable.
No, I don't mean: let's wait until last minute on a project that determines your tenure, or let's bring up how much weight Aunt Pauline has put on since last Christmas (in this scenario, I am Aunt Pauline). And I certainly don't mean starting a conversation about politics...
What I do mean; however, is going outside your comfort zone and immersing yourself in a place completely different from what you're used to. To be the opposite of Norman and walk into a bar on the other side of the world where nobody knows your name.
Aka... to travel.
Now traveling the 30 minutes into NYC (for me, at least), will get me to about the same state of "uncomfortable" as traveling across the pond to say, Stavanger, Norway... just on a slightly more frugal and manageable scale. And thank goodness for that, because due to travel abroad: I. am. Broke. (capital "B")
Yes, I am confined to the borders of the U.S. this upcoming summer, which is probably why I am finally going through with creating this blog.
You see, if I cannot physically travel abroad, I am definitely going to write about it so I can vicariously live through my own words and experiences and pass the time until my bank account matches the needs of my wanderlust heart.
Or I will finally strike it rich on a $5 dollar scratch off...
...whichever comes first.
So hopefully you enjoy this blog for what it is: an amateur love-letter to traveling and the great earth we live on.
