Whelp.

I kinda dropped the ball on the blog. I could sit here and type up all the excuses, but that would not be an entertaining read, and most people just come here for the GIFs and my impeccable humor

Instead, I will start this post with a soundtrack-to-read-by suggestion: my new favorite song (which has also been approved by Hoda Kotb, so you know it is legitimate), and give you a short update on travel and future blog plans.

Ok.... so going back a few months and posts, you'll recall that I was broke. Reference: Broke Blog Post

Like, I was foraging toilet paper and paper towels from my parents' house in my purse. Sometimes just a few sheets, not the whole roll, so as not to attract attention. Dark times.

But that was MONTHS ago. A half a year! Ages! One would assume after so much time, there would be big changes. Bundles of money in my bank account!

So I am here to report: Absolutely no changes have been made!

If possible, I am even more broke! :)

However!

Despite the lack of Benjamins, Grants, Jacksons, Hamiltons, Lincolns, Washingtons, and baby Lincolns (pennies), I threw caution to the wind and booked a roundtrip flight to Barcelona! Crazy!

But wait, although that is crazy on its own due to finances... there's more! Let me take a moment to explain to you why this trip is unlike any trip I have taken.... and most likely unlike any trip most sane people would take, as well...

So it all started a few months ago when a few co-workers and I were sitting around at a work-related party shindig thing. Someone mentioned a promotion that Norwegian Airlines ( insert heart emoji) had going for flights to Italy for dirt cheap.

....Aaaaand that's all it took. I was sold. We booked it and we're leaving November.

The end. True story.

No, but really... there were some problems with the Spontaneous YOLO Trip of 2017 that made/make it a touch nutty.

  • For one, we have only 4 days to work with due to our occupation.

  • Second, the promotion to Italy starts a day too late, which would only give us 3 days for international travel [4 days is absurd... so 3 would be whatever the best synonym for "extra absurd" would be... unless you're like Gigi Hadid].

  • Last, the following week after vacation is an important "work week" for us. One might compare what we must do that week to - multiple meetings each day with the CEO of a company on two separate days.

Then, when we went to actually book the tickets, regardless of all the hoopla that we were already disregarding, the website would NOT work in our place of business. It refused. We tried going in different rooms in search of better internet access.

We tried the whole "the internet works better at higher elevations"

....and closer to the outdoors" idea.

We tried the "internet works better when you're lower to the ground and closer to a router" idea.

Our saving grace ended up being our boss' office, in the corner, underneath the table. Go figure.

So yeah, we booked it. We're going. It's 4 days of non-stop travel/ fun/travel, but I feel like it will be a trip that I won't soon forget.

Mostly because I have worn a pair of jean shorts more days in a row this summer than the length of this vacation... so there is not much time to log in the 'ol noggin.

Also, believe it or not, there isn't much else planned besides the times we are getting there/leaving, so this blog will now serve as a post-as-we-go reference guide, as well as getting back to story-telling about previous vacations and daydreaming about future ones!

Yay!

So.... I have got the ball now guys! I will be posting again!

To the 8 people who may be reading this - welcome back!

Skål xx
