Life is a movie . . .

I am unsure of how many people live their lives this way, but ever since I can remember, I have imagined my life with a full-blown score playing in the background. Okay, not every single waking moment do I hear music playing in my head ('cause who in their right mind would actually admit that to the public ....)

.... but I used to fill in long road trips in the back of my parents' mini van with earbuds wedged deep in my ear canal, imagining my life as however the current song dictated. Sad angsty songs usually made me reflective, pensive, and subsequently: sad. Rock songs made me nostalgic / content. And dance music made me daydream about the "whatifs".

Driving by open fields made me think of what it would be like to run through them, much like a happy hippie. Often in the more rural areas of Jersey (yes, there are rural areas), when we drove past, I also would project my life into what I would be like as an adult. Quite clearly I can remember thinking (as I listened to folksie music) - - by the time I am ____, I will have a house surrounded by open fields with a kitchen and cool furnishings and a husband and kids and all will be right with the world - -

Music did that. It painted my own potential life story right in front of my eyes, and it was amazing.

Even though things didn't necessarily turn out like my daydreams, it is something I still remember to this day.

And honestly, music still propels me in time to the "whatifs" as I ride in the car... only now I'm the driver.

Which is so metaphorical, isn't it?

One of my favorite songs to daydream to is by far, Wait by M83 (Kygo remix). It has it all. As if it were the background music to some romcom movie where the lead character is figuring out that she needs to put her priorities first and go after her dreams, but then realizes she can't do it without the love of her life (played by Ryan Gosling, obviously) and therefore races in a taxi to the local airport to go chase after him across the world. All the while, still maintaining her drive toward accomplishing her dreams. Girl Power at its finest.

Back to the song: the most amazing thing is that I was able to hear it live, and it was just as magical, reflective, and downright spiritual as I imagined it to be.

Another song where you can basically produce a montage of your life in your head is No Captain, by Lane 8. Seriously, I see the iMovie transitions in between still shots of important moments I've experienced in life as I listen. It is majestic.

So am I nuts? Maybe. But the reason I bring up music in a travel blog again, is because it totally transports you. And when you are already transported (aka traveling), it feels like you are truly living out these songs and therefore living life to the fullest.

... again, maybe that's just me? Either way, what is your go-to song that takes you out of the day-to-day and into your head?

I bet it is magical.
