Prior to this past week, I needed a break.
Like, I was beginning to crack.
The ugly kind of crack where you are just not a fun person and everything is the worst.
But don't judge me too hard.
Everyone needs a break every once in a while.
A chance to get away and R E L A X.
...So, it just so happened that my break matched up perfectly with my parentals plans to visit Charleston this year for their anniversary . . . Go figure. . .
They were nice enough to invite me
(their perfect, wonderful, beautiful, fun, amazing daughter)
... and my sister and her fiance.
(they are alright)
AKA this trip would be the perfect romantic getaway for my parents!
But as I like to remind them (even as a 30 year old)... they signed up for this when they had kids!
Not my fault!
*ANYway*
Charleston.
Not the dance, but the destination
A fan favorite in our house; though my sister and I hadn't been in years.
We had regularly rented from an extremely nice family friend who has a house on Seabrook Island near Charleston when we were younger.
Very bougie area. Very beautiful. A true taste of the good life.
The city of Charleston, nearby Seabrook, is extremely charming; hence perhaps why the Bravo reality show based in Charleston is called "Southern Charm".
(a guilty pleasure of mine which I suggested my fellow travelers watch
because I know they'd love that ish ... but they didn't. I can only do so much. )
(me high-fiving all the people who listen to me)
We had a whole week "in town" so there was a lot of time to fill.
It is April, so I consider it still 'off season', though everything was open and the weather was perfect.
Not too hot, not too cold.
Great time to go.
The rundown, starting with food first, obvs.
We were able to go to some nice restaurants:
Hyman's Seafood - Charleston
Poogan's Porch - Charleston
Swig and Swine - Charleston
The Tattooed Moose - outside of Charleston
(Guy Fieri approved)
Rita's - Folly Beach, Charleston area

Best darn drink I ever tasted. Pure sugar, though. Pure sugar.
Boar's Head - Savannah, GA
(if you don't get the shrimp and grits - you stupid.)
JK, love you.
Dots Back Inn - Richmond, VA (Guy Fieri and me approved)

Wanted to go, but didn't:
FIG - Charleston
NICO (just 'cause it's in Southern Charm) - Charleston
SeeWees - outside of Charleston, a little too far
Roadside Seafood - outside of Charleston
The Pour House - outside of Charleston
The gals of the group went wedding dress shopping at an amazing boutique called "Lovely" (highly suggest if you're in the area and looking for amazing dresses and the best customer service)
My sister liked the one similar to this, obviously.
I binged a lot of Netflix that had been eluding me :
New Girl (later seasons)
Quicksand (Swedish drama - the entire series)
The usual: The Office / Parks and Rec
I read some books. Mostly, Modern Romance.
Fascinating, truly.
(note: I am not being sarcastic)
I mean it!
It still seems sarcastic.
I was very engaged in the words on the pages, for real!
Better?
Yes.
Okay!
Shopped a bit and bought myself some stuff including, but not limited to:
- a glass with the directions to make a mint julep in case I'm feeling fancy.
- a shirt that has an acute triangle and the triangle is staying, "Oh, stop it."
- ornaments and sweatshirts
- a very engagement-looking ring that I love more than life itself

There are markets that line Meeting Street (Historic Charleston City Markets) where local artists sell their work and other mass produced objects, too (like my engagement ring).
Along the markets on either side you will see horses bringing tours around the city. While I wanted to learn about the city and plan on going on a tour next time I'm in town... I felt rull bad for those horses. It isn't even peak season with the people / heat and they already look miserable.
# free the horses!
(me minus 300 pounds freeing the horses, obviously)
Based on my food suggestions, you may have pieced together that we were able to visit Savannah, Georgia , as well.
Honestly, I would go back in a heartbeat.
-
The town was beautiful, vibrant, and had a cool scene.
And any place that has a Wet Willie's,
(a daiquiri bar that I thought only existed in Miami, but was pleasantly surprised when their extensive list of alcoholic beverages was made available to me in Savannah)
I am an automatic fan of, though, so you may have to judge on your own...
(so many drink options!)
...Or I can tell you that they do not have an open container law,
so you can get you liquor to-go!
To conclude, the trip was a blast.
It was nice to spend time with my family away from home.
And though this was a domestic trip, which should mean I spent less time actually traveling... it was quite the opposite.
We drove.
As in, my mom, dad, and I.
For 16 hours there and 15 hours back.
Which ended up being fine, but it was a looooong time and we have all agreed to fly down from now on, even if that means packing 4 less outfits that we'll never wear anyway.
I'd like to think that drive was great practice for a flight across the world.
Can you say Fiji / New Zealand 2020?!
See... it all works out.

Alright, gotta go peel my burnt shoulders off.
At least I had a tan for 3 days that no one but my family, who was with me vacationing, saw!
Until next post,
SKÃ…L xx
